Mount Clemens, Mich. – April 29, 2025 – Community members looking for a way to make an immediate impact and support Turning Point, a Mt. Clemens based nonprofit serving survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking, need not look further. Clinton Township Supervisor Paul Gieleghem is coordinating a paper product drive to benefit Turning Point on Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Turning Point’s Second Hand Rose, located at 36660 S. Gratiot in Clinton Township. Turning Point’s Sexual Assault Response Team Coordinator, Cyndy Schalter-Salsido, recently sat down with Gieleghem on Clinton Township’s Supervisor Spotlight program to discuss the effort.

“While our grants do cover paper products, they do not cover to the extent we utilize them,” Schalter-Salsido noted in the interview. “We rely on the generosity of our community to help with these items. You don’t realize how often paper products are needed in housing, not only for our emergency shelter, but when people are getting back on their feet getting into a housing situation. We want to make sure we supply the things they need as they often come to us with nothing.”

The full interview can be viewed here. Paper items accepted include:

  • Facial tissue
  • Toilet paper
  • Paper towel
  • Napkins
  • Paper plates

If donors cannot make it to the drive on May 10, the Clinton Township Civic Center, located at 40700 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township, as well as Schnaidt AAA Insurance Agency, located at 35937 S. Gration Avenue in Clinton Township are serving as early collection sites accepting donations now through May 8.
