Industry: Legal Profession

Case Study #1

Communications Need: Thought leadership public relations to further distinguish employee benefits and ERISA as distinct and highly specialized areas of the law.

EAFocus Services Provided: Public relations, social media and integrated communications

After limited success with a marketing and public relations firm that did not focus on intellectual influence, this client sought out the thought-leadership PR approach employed by EAFocus.

Crafted impactful press releases and media advisories, plus managed social media and website content and posting. Employed trend-watching beyond the headline to identify and align topics of national and regional media focus – positioning client as a relevant, leading professional resource.

Success Metrics: Building on the client’s national reputation as an ERISA and employee benefits litigator and authority, EAFocus has positioned this client as the go-to media source for examining and interpreting case law, trends and coverage issues with employee benefits including health insurance and retirement plans/pensions. Further, our ongoing relationship with the client has resulted in integrated communications and public relations efforts that continue to bring attention to employee benefits as a complex, multi-faceted area of the law best handled by a litigation attorney who practices solely in that niche area.   

Case Study #2

Communications Need: Class action lawsuit public relations. A national class action law firm and its co-lead counsel law firm team sought renewed attention to a four-year-old class action lawsuit against Michigan’s largest county that was mired in legal stall tactics by the defendant.

EAFocus Services Provided: Public relations

Worked with a multi-law firm legal team to create a punchy press release that expressed a sense of newness and urgency to counter the defendant’s unwillingness to address key matters in the lawsuit – despite a Michigan Supreme Court decision related to the matter – which had forced thousands of residents out of their homes in the tax foreclosure process.

Success Metrics: The press release and corresponding media pitches resulted in targeted media coverage – including TV, radio and an op-ed – and the client hired us immediately to announce a new wage and hour class action lawsuit against one of the most prestigious universities in the country.

Industry: Nonprofit

Case Study #1

Communications Need:  Create media interest in a three-day, outdoor community art fair that has been held annually for more than 50 years and serves as the signature fundraising event for the nonprofit. Use storytelling employing a variety of communication platforms to generate buzz in local communities prior to the event.

Communications Services Provided: Public relations

Success Metrics: Despite the challenges of promoting a long-standing event with only minimal changes each year, EAFocus applied a variety of art, artist, food vendor, entertainment and additional event hooks to create fresh stories that garnered significant media coverage. In 2024, EAFocus’ third consecutive year of leading public relations for the event, widespread coverage included every key TV, radio and print media outlet in the Detroit area, as well as niche coverage in media outlets geared to families, travelers and events.  In the three months EAFocus was engaged on the project, the client received more than $8.6 million in publicity value (based on our media monitoring software). The client noted the coverage was as perfect as they could have asked for and the board of directors, staff and artists were all thrilled with the results!   

Case Study #2

Communications Need: Raise the profile of a 45-year-old organization dedicated to helping survivors of domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking live lives free of oppression. Educate the broader public on prevention methods and community support.

EAFocus Services Provided: Full-service communications

EAFocus’ services included strategic public relations planning, PR/media relations and communications advisory services, as well as professional introductions for potential grant and donor opportunities, and award nomination support.

Success Metrics: Helped the organization achieve recognition as Crain’s Detroit Business Best Managed Nonprofit in 2023. Not only has this client continued to work with EAFocus for more than three years, but it has also garnered over $13 million in publicity value (based on our media monitoring software) via extensive print, radio, online and TV coverage to date, discussing its mission and promoting its events. Supporting the tremendous work of the CEO and her team, increased media coverage, the best managed nonprofit award, and a focus on the many successful initiatives of the organization, EAFocus’ strategic communication and PR efforts have helped open the door to new community partnerships for the organization. The client has become a go-to expert in the area for domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking. Further, direct or facilitated introductions by EAFocus have resulted in donations to the organization of approximately $70,000.

Industry: Commercial Development

Communications Need:  As it began the final phase towards completion, a commercial development company sought media attention for its unique landmark development, Michigan’s most holistically sustainable commercial real estate project.

Communications Services Provided: Public relations

Success Metrics: The company’s media coverage was extensive, earning mention not only in radio, print, and online, the development also landed on the cover of a major national engineering trade publication.  Following this three-month project, the company hired EAFocus back for a longer project the following year. 

Industry: Dental Insurance

Communications need: A 40-year-old, Detroit-based dental insurer purchased a competitor, and needed an integrated, cohesive strategy for communicating the purchase to internal and external stakeholders.

EAFocus Services Provided: Comprehensive communications project management

Created messaging for a variety of audiences, including customers and employees of the company that was acquired, existing employees at the purchased company, union and non-union dental plan participants and their insureds, dental networks, and insurance agents. Created and distributed a press release announcing the purchase and shared with local and national business and industry trade publications. Arranged leadership photography sessions; provided videographer options. Reviewed and updated website content and provided social media content.

Success metrics: Client was so pleased with EAFocus’ approach, efforts and results, they retained EAFocus for one year beyond what was initially a three-month project, using our services for HR-related communications project management and other ongoing communications and marketing needs.
