Troy, Mich.—July 26, 2022—Intellectual property law firm Fishman Stewart, PLLC, is pleased to welcome Alexander JSW Johnson as an associate trademark attorney.  Johnson will focus his practice on intellectual property litigation and dispute resolution, trademarks, copyrights and IP consulting, and transactional and e-commerce services across multiple industries.

From full-service IP to a trademark prosecution-focused practice, Johnson gained nearly nine years of varied IP experience in Austin, Texas, and Davenport, Iowa, before coming on board. Johnson’s strength stems from his ability to learn and quickly grasp his clients’ intellectual property objectives and their industries to apply the best legal approach to maximize enterprise value within their business models or resolve adversarial matters.

Johnson received his Juris Doctor from The University of Iowa College of Law and double major B.A. in Journalism and Studio Art from The University of Iowa in Iowa City. He received standout awards while a law student including the ABA/BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Intellectual Property; Dean’s Award – IP Advocacy; National Runner-Up, Best Brief, and Midwest Regional Champion in the Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court Competition; and Dean’s Award – Trademarks & Unfair Competition Law.  Johnson also cites his time as an undergrad journalist at the student newspaper in influencing his career in law—building up a foundation of curiosity and strong reporting and writing skills–and applying that to his legal responsibilities today.

Johnson is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Iowa Intellectual Property Association. In his spare time, Johnson is a hobbyist photographer and enjoys cooking, board games, basketball, golf, and watching his alma mater Iowa Hawkeyes as well as the Chicago Cubs.

“We are pleased to have Alex on our Fishman Stewart team,” Managing Partner Michael Stewart said. “His diligent, pragmatic approach to intellectual property will be an asset to our clients in protecting their creative interests and achieving their strategic business goals.”
