Flint, Mich. — Aug. 9, 2017 — Flint-based Social Impact Philanthropy and Investment (SIPI), a platform for change providing business and operational services to social enterprises and nonprofits, as well as implementation and administration of government programs, is pleased to sponsor the Flint Style Soccer Camp on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The camp will be held at Berston Field House, 3300 Saginaw Street in Flint.
The free camp, offering soccer basics drills and skills, is for children ages 8 -14 and no previous soccer experience is necessary to participate. Registration can be done in advance at Berston, or beginning at 9 a.m. on the day of the event. A camp T-shirt for the first 100 students, food donated by Luigi’s and bottled water will be provided; lunch will be served at 1 p.m.
The soccer camp will be led by Tony Rowe, varsity boy’s head soccer coach at Flint Powers Catholic and 2013 MHSSCA Coach of the Year. The camp will also be staffed by the 2016 State runner up Powers Catholic Varsity soccer team and other experienced coaches from the area.
“As a team, we are focused on giving back to the community. What better way to end our week of tryouts than to lead this camp, expose kids in Flint to the game of soccer and get ready for the season? We are also working with the Powers Catholic Athletic Department to allow every kid that attends the camp the ability to attend our home games at Atwood this fall,” Rowe said.
Commissioner Brian Nolden, executive director of the Berston Field House, was quick to agree to host the camp for a second year.
“Last year, there was tremendous excitement about the camp; we are happy to bring it back this year and hope to find ways to continue to engage the kids for the rest of the summer and fall,” Nolden said.
Steve Wolbert, CEO of SIPI, is pleased to have his organization sponsor the event.
“Much of our work at SIPI is connecting people to make good things happen and help revitalize Flint and cities like it. Bringing kids together to learn to play soccer on a summer Saturday – that’s something that makes sense for us to be a part of,” Wolbert said.
