Pontiac, Mich. — March 30, 2020 — Michigan Legacy Credit Union (MLCU)—with six physical branches in Flat Rock, Garden City, Highland, Pontiac, Warren and Wyandotte, more than 20,000 members and $218 million in assets—is pleased to announce that President and CEO Carma Peters has been named to the Board of Directors of Crime Stoppers of SE Michigan.  Serving seven counties in Southeast Michigan, the nonprofit organization enables tipsters to anonymously report crimes via phone (1-800-SPEAKUP) or online (1800SPEAKUP.org) to help prevent and solve criminal activity. Peters has been actively involved in Crime Stoppers of Michigan since June 2017 and most recently served on the Fundraising Committee. 

Peters began her role as president and CEO of Michigan Legacy Credit Union in 2014, and is currently leading a new strategic direction for its branch network that involves updated but smaller branches, including some new locations; a new design theme; the introduction of video teller platforms; pet-friendly locations; and a new prototype branch in Flat Rock, Mich., that will open in the fall of 2020.  She launched her career in the credit union industry in 1979 at Alcoa Employee’s Credit Union in Bettendorf, Iowa, and built her expertise in credit union management in Wyoming, Maryland, and Washington D.C., and Wyoming before relocating to Michigan in 2003. She has been a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer since 1999.

Peters is actively engaged in professional and civic organizations. In addition to Crime Stoppers, she serves as a board member of the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) and is a chair of its Downriver Chapter; the Chair of the Michigan Credit Union Foundation; the Chair of Xtend Board, a credit union service organization; and Vice Chair of the American Lung Association’s local leadership board. She is also involved in 2|42 Church – Monroe campus, where she started an ongoing charity euchre tournament, “Euchre Change a Life,” that benefits Haitian school children through Haitian Christian Ministries.
