Rochester, MI —September 13, 2023 — OPC Social & Activity Center – The Best Place to Be 50+ – is pleased to announce its new name and brand refresh. With a nod to its past, the former Older Persons’ Commission name change to OPC Social & Activity Center retains a part of its familiar name, while reinvigorating the look and feel to better reflect the active, engaged and sophisticated adult 50+ population of today. Celebrating its 40th year in 2023, OPC Social & Activity Center continues to flourish, providing adults with nutrition and transportation resources, as well as activity, educational and fitness offerings for residents in Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township. The organization, which has no membership fee, welcomed 178,305 people through its doors in 2022.

According to OPC Social & Activity Center Executive Director Renee Cortright, OPC’s rich history in the community was the driving force behind the brand refresh – and staying true to the organization’s long-standing role as a champion for the 50+ community was imperative.

“There is so much respect and tradition associated with OPC, and we want to recognize and celebrate the historical contribution this organization has made, while at the same time, speak to the new generation of 50+ who may not consider themselves ‘seniors.’ OPC Social & Activity Center is an inclusive name, celebrating this history and all of our membership, while also looking forward to an exciting future,” Cortright said.

Cortright – who previously served on Michigan’s Commission on Services to the Aging, which guides policy for the state’s aging network – continued that OPC Social & Activity Center also attracts people to the Greater Rochester area as they come of age.

“People have moved here to be closer to family, and our organization weighs heavily in the decision to move specifically to Rochester, Rochester Hills or Oakland Township,” Cortright said.

In addition to the 40th anniversary of its founding, the organization is celebrating 20 years since the opening of its sprawling 90,000 square foot building. The award-winning facility at 650 Letica Drive in Rochester boasts two indoor pools, a walking track, recently renovated cardiovascular and weight training room, wildly popular pickleball courts and a calming atrium, among other amenities. A sampling of classes and group activities include yoga, spinning, basketball, pottery, musical theatre, travel, art and bingo.  The focus is on health, wellness, socializing, community and staying engaged.

OPC Social & Activity Center will continue to provide supportive services, which are the hallmark of the organization. These services address the complete spectrum of needs of more vulnerable individuals, such as an adult day care and a ‘memory café’ for those with memory loss, transportation, and programming for caregivers. OPC Social & Activity Center transportation service provides low-cost, door-to-door rides for those 60+ and disabled adults under 60 who reside in Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township, offering safe and reliable transit to medical, dental and personal appointments, shopping or onsite activities.

OPC Social & Activity Center is also the sole provider of Meals on Wheels for nine northeastern Oakland County communities. The organization prepares, serves and delivers over 360 meals daily and provided 100,003 meals in 2022. Additional services are available through the organization’s Senior Support Services department.

Because of the organization’s broad reach in the community, the introduction of the OPC Social & Activity Center name and energized brand, which ultimately includes a new website, will roll-out in the coming weeks.
