Mount Clemens, Mich. – August 1, 2022 – Turning Point, an agency whose mission is to empower domestic and sexual violence survivors through comprehensive services and resources, is excited to celebrate National Thrift Shop Day at its resale shop, Second Hand Rose, on Wednesday, August 17. The store is located at 158 S. Main in Mt. Clemens and will be open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
“Second Hand Rose serves multiple purposes to support the work we do,” notes Karan Bates-Gasior, Chief Development Officer for Turning Point who also oversees the store’s operations. “Not only are we able to put the proceeds from the store directly toward our organization’s efforts, but survivors are able to shop for free for needed items such as clothing and shoes. Additionally, Turning Point’s housing program, which houses survivors both temporarily and longer term, gets many of the items to set up living units from the store.”
As part of National Thrift Shop Day, Second Hand Rose will be offering Purple Light Specials for additional savings, light refreshments, and a bounce-back coupon for those who make a purchase on August 17 that can be redeemed between August 18-31. The bounce-back coupon will allow shoppers to redeem for a clothing item (e.g., $3 shirts or $4 jeans) for 25 cents. Additionally, the entire store will be 50% off as it prepares to move to its new location later this year.
Second Hand Rose brought in 18,334 customers in the 2020-2021 fiscal year and averages $300,000 in annual profits. It is a great community resource to find gently used or even new items at a significantly reduced cost, especially for those looking for furniture and décor to furnish a new space.
“Every customer that makes a purchase at Second Hand Rose directly helps to support Turning Point’s mission,” Bates-Gasior added. “On average, Second Hand Rose provides $9,000 worth of goods to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who are working to rebuild their lives – free of violence – each year. We are grateful for support in any form that helps further our mission.”
