Rochester, Mich. – October 3, 2022 – MedNetOne Health Solutions (MedNetOne), a health care management and physician organization offering infrastructure, technology, and clinical services to nearly 1,000 private practice physicians and other independent care providers, is pleased to announce John Shafer has joined the organization as a behavioral health specialist. The announcement was made by CEO Ewa Matuszewski.

“As the role of behavioral health increasingly becomes more crucial to whole person care, we look forward to having John on board,” Matuszewski said. “His background will help MedNetOne deliver much-needed behavioral healthcare in collaboration with primary care to improve patient experiences and outcomes.”

Shafer, who is a U.S. Army veteran, will be a part of the organization’s integrated behavioral health care clinician team—working closely with primary care providers and other healthcare professionals to administer individual outpatient and family-centered assessments and interventions that focus on patients’ health behaviors and other psychosocial factors that impact health and well-being. Specifically, Shafer will be coordinating suicide prevention education and learning efforts, as well as serving as a liaison for the BCBSM Collaborative Quality Initiative MiMIND (Michigan Mental health Innovation Network for clinical Design), which works to engage psychiatrists, psychologists, and primary care physicians to improve suicide prevention and care across Michigan.

Prior to joining MedNetOne, Shafer held the position of therapist at a variety of facilities—counseling individuals, children, couples and families. He has also provided outpatient family and group counseling services to populations diagnosed with developmental and intellectual disorders, in addition to sex offenders both on parole and probation. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Association for the Treatment of Sex Abusers.

Shafer received his M.A. in Psychology with a specialization in Behavioral-Health Psychology from Northcentral University, and his B.A. in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University. He holds numerous credentials including: Certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy; Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP); Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP); and Child Mental Health Professional (CMHP).

Before becoming a therapist, Shafer served in roles for the U.S. Army and Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He was responsible for enforcing all laws within Title 18 and Title 49 of the U.S. Criminal Code and conducted investigations pertaining to Chapter 465-Special Aircraft Jurisdiction of the United States both foreign and domestically.
