Warren, Mich. — November 8, 2019 —Michigan Legacy Credit Union (MLCU), bringing fintech advances to the credit union industry in Michigan, is introducing its Community Connect program to deliver banking services in-person to its members at their office or selected place of business. The announcement was made by Michigan Legacy Credit Union President and CEO Carma Peters.

“Michigan Legacy Credit Union is focused on making banking easier for our customers, and we have a variety of online options to complete most banking services from any device,” Peters said. “While nearly 93% of all of our transactions and member interactions are done online, sometimes our members want to chat about a service or make a transaction while engaging with a MLCU representative face-to face, at a time and place most convenient for them. With Community Connect, that can now be arranged with a quick text, phone call, or email; we will respond with some meeting options within 24 hours.”

Examples of services available through the new Community Connect program include mortgage, car loan and credit card applications, a tutorial on using online banking services, and explanations on investment options such as certificates of deposit. The two key stipulations of the program are that no cash can be exchanged, and the location must be a registered business.  With branches in Flat Rock, Garden City, Highland, Pontiac, Warren and Wyandotte, and serving members who live, work, worship, attend school, or own a business in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe and Livingston counties, Michigan Legacy Credit Union serves a diverse geographic population, with many members not always in close proximity to a branch.

“Community Connect adds a new level of convenience for our members, as well as providing financial information and services to individuals interested in becoming MLCU members,” Peters said. “Especially in the credit union environment, banking services today need to combine both technology and a personal touch in order to maintain strong relationships and continue to grow membership, and that’s our goal with this new service.”

For those who continue to visit MLCU in person, Peters also announced a new pet-friendly policy at all of its branches.

“Pets have grown to take such a prominent place in our lives, and with pets already welcome at a variety of retail outlets and centers, our branches wanted to extend the invitation as well,” Peters said.

MLCU is partnering with Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit to kick off its pet-friendly policy, and will be making a donation in support of the animal adoption and education organization’s efforts.
