Rochester, Mich. – April 3, 2019 –MedNetOne Health Solutions (MedNetOne), a health care management organization offering infrastructure, clinical and technology services to 900+ private practice physicians and other independent care providers, including behavioral health specialists, announced it is the presenting sponsor and co-organizer of Oakland University’s School of Health Sciences Healthology Symposium, scheduled for Wednesday, May 1 on the Oakland University campus.

MedNetOne CEO Ewa Matuszewski, who also serves as Board Chair on the School of Health Sciences Advisory Board, is pleased to have MedNetOne play an integral role in Healthology as the annual event continues its focus on the social determinants of health (#SDOH).

“Healthology is a much needed, population-health focused event that uses dialogue, shared research and experiences, and collaboration after the symposium to impact the health of our community,” Matuszewski said. “MedNetOne is privileged to again sponsor Healthology and play a role in bringing the healthcare community and the community at large together to identify solutions to health and well-being challenges caused or exacerbated by social determinants of health.”

Social determinants of health may include:

  • Economic resources, including access to jobs that provide a living wage
  • Safe workplaces and safe neighborhoods
  • Quality of schools and availability for advanced education and training
  • Clean and safe water, air and food
  • Positive support systems through home and family relationships and extended social interactions

In tandem with the symposium, Oakland University is hosting a community event for Healthology on Tuesday evening, April 30, that is free to the public. Registration details can be found here.

At Healthology 2019, health care leaders, providers, students and community members will gather to discuss the importance of addressing the “upstream” social determinants of health in achieving better “downstream” care within the scope of clinical and diagnostic teams. The discussion will examine the importance of collaborative medical settings in the battle over community health crises, and will include a keynote address from Michael Laposata, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chairman of the Department of Pathology at The University of Texas Medical Branch.

Michigan speakers include Kimberlydawn Wisdom, M.D., Senior Vice President of Community Health & Equity, Chief Wellness & Diversity Officer, Henry Ford Health System, and Michigan’s first surgeon general; Margaret Dimond, Ph.D., President & CEO of McLaren Oakland Hospital; Lenora Hardy-Foster, President & CEO of Judson Center; Gina Buccalo, M.D., Chief Medical Officer at UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust; and family physician Gregg Stefanek, DO, Medical Director for Dow Chemical, who will speak on #SDOH in Mid-Michigan communities. Other topics include:

  • Screening Patients for #SDOH. Now What?
  • Pathway Home: Bridging Behavioral Health and Primary Care with Community Services
  • Elder Access and Utilization of Care: Lessons from the Provider and the Purchaser
  • Interoperability: How Can We Make this Work?

A complete agenda for the May 1 Symposium can be found here.

According to Kevin A. Ball, Ph.D., Dean of the Oakland University School of Health Sciences, the Healthology Symposium, where science, practice, and social interests meet, provides a culminating focus for faculty, students and community partners to celebrate impactful research and scholarship that affect health outcomes.

“This symposium is a call for public awareness and professional action and is an outstanding way to bring together collaborators, in purpose for health,” Ball said. “We are pleased to partner with MedNetOne Health Solutions to bring the issue of social determinants of health to the forefront through this event.”

6 CME hours are available for full-day attendance at the event. Better Upstream Health, Better Downstream Care runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, and will be held in the Human Health Building on the campus of Oakland University.  For ticket information and to register, visit http://wwwp.oakland.edu/shs/healthology/.
