Ann Arbor, Mich.—January 3, 2017–Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the nation’s largest intellectual property law firms, has elected patent prosecutor Gerlinde (Linda) Nattler as a shareholder, effective January 1, 2017. Nattler is based in the firm’s Ann Arbor office.

“Linda’s international perspective, in-house experience and legal acumen combine to help our clients secure patents that are meaningful in scope and can stand the test of time as technology evolves,” Steven L. Oberholtzer, managing shareholder of Brinks’ Ann Arbor office, said. “I’m delighted to congratulate Linda on her election as shareholder.”

Nattler focuses her practice on patent prosecution and IP portfolio management with an emphasis on mechanical, electronic, hydraulic and computer processing technologies. Her knowledge of different standards applied by patent offices in the U.S. and overseas helps her draft patent applications that withstand domestic as well as international challenges.

“Initially, I learned about Brinks as a client,” says Nattler, who before becoming an attorney worked as a patent engineer in the automotive industry in Germany and the U.S. In those positions, she gained extensive experience in patent prosecution in Europe—particularly in Germany—and in the U.S., including in prosecuting patents at the European Patent Office.

“Brinks stood out for me among other IP firms because I felt they put the client first by being conscientious about both quality and cost,” she adds. “When I finished law school and was looking to enter private practice, Brinks was my first choice.”

Nattler attended the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills, Mich. on a full academic scholarship and graduated magna cum laude. She holds a degree in physics from Universität Bayreuth in Germany.

Brinks’ Ann Arbor office is one of the firm’s seven offices in the U.S. Brinks Gilson & Lione is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017.
