Windsor/Detroit – July 5, 2016 – Douglas Marketing Group (DMG), an international marketing and PR firm with a 25-year history of award-winning creative initiatives, is making its mark on the spirits industry as it adds the recently opened Wolfhead Distillery in Amherstburg, Ontario, to the growing list of spirits companies that have tapped DMG’s branding and marketing expertise. DMG recently received a Silver 2016 Summit Creative Award for Consumer Image Website for its work with the spirits maker, which is about an hour across the water from Detroit and the first new distillery to open in the Southern Ontario region since Prohibition.

Wolfhead Distillery boasts six uniquely flavored spirits, a tasting room and a spirits-paired menu. DMG started the brand launch by presenting label designs for whisky and vodka bottles to a focus group of spirits enthusiasts and community members and then went to work with its integrated marketing and design approach. The Wolfhead brand was ultimately designed to embrace the history of the region, with a nod to the bustling tourism business. The website, labels and brand materials capture the personality of the Wolfhead brand, while sharing distinct messaging for media and the region.

In recent years, DMG has done comprehensive marketing, from name creation to branding and communications planning, for Viewpointe Estate Winery in Essex County, Ontario, showcasing the region’s fine wines and culinary diversity. The historic Walkerville Brewery, which dates back to Hiram Walker in 1890, also sought out DMG for branding and promotional events that helped position the company as an emerging leader in the craft beer industry. With a dual agenda, DMG also reinvigorated the appeal of the rich historic elements of the Walkerville, Ontario community vis-a-vis the Walkerville Brewery brand, evidenced by the Honest Lager can design that won the Gold 2015 Summit Creative Award for Packaging.

Kay Douglas, DMG founder and president, noted the firm’s appeal to the spirits industry.

“Our team is experienced in developing and executing integrated strategic marketing plans that strengthen the client’s business and its brand; this is especially important with new or renewed brands in the hypercompetitive craft beer, wine and distillery space,” Douglas said. “How do brands differentiate and thrive in such a dynamic environment? A key part of DMG’s role as marketers is understanding the critical element of partnerships in a client’s business and bringing partnership options and ideas to clients.

“When clients are focused on the business of their business, in this case spirits and the tourism that accompanies it, they can miss partnership opportunities that not only strengthen their brand but often support a broader cause or community initiative,” Douglas said. “This is where relationship marketing can have a significant impact in creating or sustaining a legacy brand. This was the case with the Walkerville Brewery and it’s paying off for the community as well.”

Next up for DMG in the spirits market? The agency says stay tuned for additional new product launches, label designs and grand openings.
