Detroit —November 13, 2023 —DENCAP Dental Plans, a Detroit-based provider of dental insurance plans and Michigan’s largest Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO), is pleased to announce that DENCAP President Joe Lentine Jr. has been named a Crain’s Detroit Business Notable Leader in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). The award recognizes business leaders who champion DEI in their organizations and beyond and considers their career accomplishments, track record of success and effectiveness of their DEI efforts. Lentine Jr.’s profile feature is included in the November 13 issue of Crain’s Detroit Business.
In addition to his role as DENCAP’s president, Lentine Jr. is the majority owner. Founded in Detroit by his father Joe Lentine Sr. with the belief that its residents should have access to affordable, high quality dental insurance, DENCAP’s history of DEI commitment through its staffing, executive board leadership and community efforts has continued in earnest under Lentine Jr.’s leadership.
Working initially as an engineer, Lentine Jr. had a successful career in the automotive industry for two decades, last serving as Director of Global Supply Chain Engineering for General Motors before joining DENCAP in 2006 as executive vice president. He ultimately took over the reins of the company from his father in 2009.
In his multiple leadership positions, Lentine Jr. has always acted on his career-long commitment to diversity by offering opportunities to those who may have otherwise been overlooked for career advancement. At DENCAP, more than 40% of employees are minorities and 79% are female.
“The diversity of our employees is a huge strength. It only helps our business,” Lentine Jr. said.
Active in the Detroit Chapter of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO), Lentine Jr. served as DEI chair from July 2021 to June 2023. After successfully growing both female and minority membership, he was tapped to lead DEI for EO at the regional level, encompassing entrepreneurs from 23 chapters in 14 states.
Dedicated to the community and a long-time member of Kiwanis Detroit Club #1, Lentine Jr. spearheads DENCAP’S efforts with Books for Kids, which has given away 2 million+ books to Detroit-area youth since its founding in 2001 by Joe Lentine, Sr. and his fellow Kiwanians from the Detroit Club #1.
