Ann Arbor, Mich. – May 26, 2015 –Civionics, an Ann Arbor-based provider of intelligent wireless sensor networks and cloud-based data services, received a $25,000 investment from Automation Alley’s technology investment committee. The announcement was made by Gerry Roston, CEO of Civionics.
“We have only been members of Automation Alley’s 7Cs™ program since March, but we are already benefitting from the entrepreneurial assistance offered by Automation Alley,” Roston said. “This additional investment from Auto Alley is an extra boost to our efforts to commercialize our technology and expand our manufacturing customer base in Michigan and beyond.”
Civionics is a member of Automation Alley’s 7Cs™ entrepreneurship program. Automation Alley, Michigan’s largest technology business association, launched the 7Cs™ in December 2014 with a specific emphasis on helping advanced manufacturing startups across southeast Michigan. With assistance from Automation Alley’s entrepreneurship experts, companies are guided through a customized seven-step process that starts with the conception of their technology and leads to commercialization. The program includes intense coaching and a commitment from Automation Alley to invest resources and capital.
Civionics is addressing the problem of downtime in heavy manufacturing facilities by providing plant managers with real-time, sensor-based information to help them schedule equipment maintenance in a manner that minimizes both costs and the risk of equipment failure. This is accomplished using wireless sensing hardware that processes sensor data before transmitting it, allowing for the reduction or elimination of problems associated with other wireless monitoring platforms, such as high bandwidth demand, limited battery life, inadequate storage capacity and decision-making paralysis due to data inundation. In recent years, Civionics’ products have been used to monitor long-span bridges, wind turbines, naval combatant vessels and other engineered systems around the world.
Civionics was lauded for its efforts by Tom Kelly, Automation Alley’s director of entrepreneurship.
