Ann Arbor, Mich. – Feb. 1, 2017—Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the nation’s largest intellectual property law firms, announced that Steven L. Oberholtzer, managing shareholder of the firm’s Ann Arbor office, will be a presenter at the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s (AIPLA) Mid-Winter Institute, to be held Feb. 1 to 4 in Fort Lauderdale, FL. At Brinks, Oberholtzer’s practice focuses on the development and implementation of corporate intellectual property policies, intellectual asset management, litigation, and technology licensing. He has decades of experience representing clients in the automotive industry, including current responsibility for the worldwide intellectual property issues of multiple automotive suppliers. Familiar with a range of mechanical and electromechanical disciplines, he has also responded to client needs in technology matters involving medical devices, lasers, fiber optics, optical devices and heavy industrial equipment. Oberholtzer also has experience in United States Patent and Trademark Office administrative proceedings and regularly provides opinions regarding infringement risks, design-around projects, patentability, litigation, and intellectual property issues surrounding merger and acquisition transactions.

A frequent writer and speaker on intellectual property policy development and trends, Oberholtzer is the principal author and original editor of The Basic Principles of Intellectual Property Law, originally published by Brinks in 2006 and recently released in its fourth, Centennial Edition to reflect ongoing changes in intellectual property law and coinciding with the firm’s 100th anniversary in 2017.
