Auburn Hills, MI —April 16, 2013—- Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, announces it will host a complimentary breakfast for local realtors on Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 8:30am until 10:30am to showcase the Avondale School District, which encompasses portions of Auburn Hills, Bloomfield Township, Troy and Rochester Hills. The breakfast will be held in the main conference room of the Avondale Administrative Offices, located at 2940 Waukegan Street in Auburn Hills.

During the breakfast, realtors will learn about the academic, athletic, music, art, leadership and extracurricular activities available to Avondale students. Additionally, the District will introduce realtors to the new Avondale Oakland University partnership lab school at Auburn Elementary. The lab school will be organized as a clinical teaching model where the Avondale teaching staff joins with the research and best practices of OU’s faculty to build a bridge between educational theory and practice. The aim of the lab school, which begins in the fall, is to implement best practices for student learning, student teacher education and teacher-to-teacher mentoring. It is a concept that has broad appeal to families interested in having their students educated under a dynamic learning and teaching delivery model.

Realtors will also have an opportunity to ask questions of Avondale administrators and will receive an informational packet about Avondale. Avondale Superintendent George Heitsch, Ed.D. looks forward to sharing the Avondale story with residential realtors who come into contact with prospective Avondale school parents every day.

“With standardized test scores that exceed Oakland County averages, the Avondale schools are a strong selling point in this area. We have a wonderful story to tell about the success that Avondale students realize from kindergarten through twelfth grade in academics, artistic pursuits, athletics and other extracurricular activities,” explains Dr. Heitsch. “For example, the Avondale High School class of 2012 was collectively offered $3.2 million in college scholarship opportunities.”

Advanced reservations are requested. Realtors interested in attending the breakfast should call the Avondale Community Relations office at 248-537-6041 or email Sue Briggs at susan.briggs@avondale.k12.mi.us.
