Avondale Middle School principal will also take on additional responsibilities

Auburn Hills, MI —August 27, 2013—-Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, announced that Sean Fisher has been named an assistant principal at Avondale High School.

Immediately prior to joining Avondale, Mr. Fisher served as Graduation Coach in Ann Arbor Public Schools. He has also taught in the Troy School District and Detroit Public schools. Mr. Fisher holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Community Health Education from the University of Toledo, a Masters of Education degree in Health Education from Wayne State University and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration and General Supervision from Wayne State University.

“Sean Fisher brings strong leadership skills and a commitment to advance student growth and school-culture. His experience will further our goal of helping all students at Avondale High School succeed,” said Dr. George Heitsch, Superintendent of Avondale Schools.

Dr. Heitsch also announced the appointment of Mrs. Marsha Wharton as Student Achievement Specialist/Middle School Support Administrator at Avondale Middle School, replacing Mrs. Arryn Schneider, who was recently appointed principal at Woodland Elementary. In the new role of Student Achievement Specialist, Mrs. Wharton will assume responsibilities for student achievement district-wide. Previously, Mrs. Wharton had been principal of Auburn Elementary. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Wayne State University, a master’s degree in Early Childhood from Wayne State University and an Administrative Certificate from Oakland University. She is also currently pursuing a Doctorate in Education at Michigan State University.

“Marsha Wharton has demonstrated solid skills in helping Avondale students reach their highest potential. I’m very pleased to announce her new role as an administrator at Avondale Middle School and her additional responsibilities in serving as district-wide student achievement specialist,” said Dr. Heitsch.

In related news, Dr. Heitsch noted that Todd Robinson, Principal of Avondale Middle School, will assume additional district-wide responsibilities as Chair of the District Continuous Improvement Team.

“Todd’s additional role is critical for the district as we prepare for a February 2014 on-site visit from the AdvancED organization to recertify the district’s status as system accredited. We are grateful to Todd for taking on these additional duties,” said Dr. Heitsch.
