Auburn Hills, Mich. —May 28, 2014—- Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, is pleased to announce Theresa Hinman, a graduating senior at Avondale High School, received Congressional Nominations to both the United States Military Academy at West Point and the United States Naval Academy, as well as a four-year Naval Reserve Officers Training Corp (NROTC) scholarship. Theresa is the daughter of Wallace and Amy Hinman of Troy.

Graduating as a Top Ten Honored Student, Theresa has a 4.213 GPA. She has accepted the appointment to the United States Military Academy as part of the class of 2018. After completing four years at West Point, she plans to pursue medical school and serve as an Army doctor.

While at Avondale, Theresa was part of the varsity softball and cross country teams, receiving the Avondale Purple and Gold award her freshman year, as well as scholar-athlete awards each season. She has been part of Avondale’s Vocal Music program for four years, participated in Regional and State Honors Choir, District and State Solo and Ensemble, and District and State Choir festivals. Along with taking all the AP/honors science electives offered at Avondale, Theresa was dual enrolled at Oakland Community College and Oakland University, where she completed Calculus I, II and III. Outside the classroom, Theresa participated in travel softball and volunteered at Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit.

Theresa and her fellow Top Ten Honored Students from Avondale High School’s graduating class of 2014 were honored at a breakfast on Thursday, May 22.
