Auburn Hills, Mich. —April 1, 2014—- Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, announces Avondale High School senior, Jabbar Mims, has received the Wendy’s High School Heisman. The award honors seniors throughout the country who excel in learning, performing, and leading in the classroom, on the field and in the community. To be eligible for the Wendy’s High School Heisman, students must be a member of the high school class of 2014, have a cumulative high school grade point average of a 3.0 or above, and participate in at least one of 27 eligible school-sponsored sports.

Jabbar is the son of Samuel and Michelle Mims of Auburn Hills. He was a varsity starter on the basketball team for three years, earning All-League selection each of those years. He was also a member of the varsity football team, starting for the Yellowjackets the last two seasons, and earned a letter in track his sophomore year. He plans to attend Florida Atlantic University, Michigan State University or Howard University in the fall.
