Birmingham, Mich. –– November 4, 2019 — Shirley Maddalena, of prominent interior design firm Maddalena Design, Ltd., is pleased to announce she will again host the popular Holiday High Tea to benefit Alternatives For Girls (AFG). Proceeds from this festive occasion will go toward AFG programs that help homeless and at-risk girls and young women make positive choices in life.  This has been a time-honored tradition for Maddalena, who has been hosting the tea as a benefit for 31 years. The afternoon tea takes place on Thursday, December 5, at the Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend Street, Birmingham, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.

“Tea at the Townsend is a perfect way for mothers, daughters and friends to ring in the holiday season, and I continue to look forward to hosting this delightful event,” Maddalena said.  “It is particularly gratifying to see many returning guests who have made this their annual tradition—and even better, have become volunteers and supporters of Alternatives For Girls after learning more about the positive impact AFG has on girls and young women in Detroit.”

Guests will enjoy warmth, hospitality and delectable teatime delights, and have the opportunity to bid on new and gently used treasures donated by guests in the featured silent auction. Auction items include jewelry, books, home décor, food baskets with iconic Detroit brands, bakery treats and fresh floral arrangements—with 100% of the proceeds benefitting Alternatives For Girls.  Amy Good, CEO of Alternatives For Girls, noted the value of the annual tea to AFG.

“Shirley Maddalena’s generosity in presenting the annual Holiday High Tea to benefit Alternatives For Girls has provided critical support to the organization. The event has raised significant funds and most importantly, inspired guests to become friends of AFG—making a real impact on AFG’s work,” Good said. “I am deeply appreciative of Shirley’s ongoing commitment to AFG’s mission of providing resources and opportunities to the girls and young women we serve. I look forward to another charming tea at the Townsend on December 5!”
