Honorees are featured in the February 23, 2026, issue of Crain’s; Shierk’s profile can be viewed here.
These experienced female attorneys in Southeast Michigan are among the best in their profession, setting precedents in landmark cases, guiding million-dollar transactions and shaping policies – while mentoring the next generation of attorneys.
They are trailblazers and torchbearers, creating space and supporting the success of other women in the field of law. And they give back their expertise and insights to shape their personal and professional communities for the better.
Shierk maintains one of Michigan’s most highly regarded commercial real estate law practices. She represents real estate developers in all aspects of land development: zoning approvals and entitlements, property acquisition, construction and permanent financing, development agreements, construction contracts and leasing. Her practice also encompasses telecommunications law and land use.
A leading authority on Michigan’s condominium, HOA, community property development and land title laws, Shierk serves as lead condominium counsel for Bedrock Detroit’s 1.5 million square-foot Hudson’s development, the mixed-use project that will forever change downtown Detroit’s skyline.
Shierk led the legal team for a firm client that acquired 35 popular fast-food restaurants throughout the Midwest in 2025. The complex transaction included due diligence, financing and definitive agreements negotiations, making the Michigan-based company the world’s largest single owner of franchise locations for this particular restaurant chain.
Committed to advancing the legal profession, Shierk has held numerous leadership roles in the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, including Section Chair. She is a prodigious author on commercial property and condominium law for the Michigan Real Property Law Review and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education and is a member of the prestigious American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
In addition to Crain’s Notable recognition, Shierk has received numerous legal awards throughout her career, including multiple Michigan Super Lawyers, DBusiness Top Lawyers and Best Lawyers® nods. Additionally, she was recognized as a 2025, 2021 and 2019 Best Lawyers® “Lawyer of the Year” in land use and zoning— awarded to an individual lawyer with the highest overall peer-feedback for their specific practice area and geographic region. Beyond her legal accomplishments, she is a Master Gardener and volunteers at Cranbrook Gardens.
Shierk holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University.
