Birmingham, Mich.—July 29, 2019 – Steinhardt Pesick & Cohen, P.C. Long has been appointed to a second term as the Continuing Legal Education Chair for the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. The Real Property Law Section provides educational opportunities through seminars, publications and networking events, in addition to advocacy in the state legislature and in precedential cases involving real property law.
The firm also announced that Long has been published in the latest WMU-Cooley Law Review. Long’s article, “Business Activity” and the Common Control Exception to “Transfer of Ownership” Under Michigan’s General Property Tax Act, appears in the Spring 2019 edition—Volume 35, Issue 1—on page 41. The WMU-Cooley Law Review publishes articles that are useful for legal practitioners and law students, in addition to providing guidance for judicial opinions. Long also has published works in the University of Detroit Mercy Law Review, the Michigan State Law Review, the Wayne Law Review and the Michigan Real Property Review.
At SPC, Long’s practice areas include eminent domain, property taxation, real estate, and land use, as well as appellate litigation. He has successfully represented clients in Michigan’s trial courts, the Michigan Tax Tribunal, and the Michigan Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
Long is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers, and the State Bar of Michigan. Long has also served as Chair of the State Bar of Michigan Real Property Law Section’s State and Local Tax Committee since 2009.
Long earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where he received the Jerome P. Cavanagh Scholarship and graduated summa cum laude. He received his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, with majors in both political science and philosophy from Oakland University, under a full academic scholarship, and was named the Oakland University Philosophy Honor Graduate for his graduating class. Long also studied real estate development at the Ross Graduate School of Business at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
