Detroit –– Nov. 7, 2017 — Shirley Maddalena of Detroit-based Maddalena Design, Ltd., is pleased to announce she will again be hosting the annual Holiday Tea at the Townsend to support Alternatives For Girls, a Detroit-based organization helping local homeless and high-risk girls and young women. Maddalena’s time-honored tradition—which has sold-out in prior years—will be held on Friday, December 1, at the Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend Street, Birmingham. This festive occasion serves not only as a charity fundraiser but also a social gathering for mothers, daughters and friends to kick off the holiday season.

“For 29 years, the holiday high tea has been a charming way to ring in the holidays and support women’s charities,” Maddalena said. “Many women have been coming to this event since 1988, while others have recently discovered it and are making it their annual tradition. Even better, many guests have become year-round volunteers and supporters of Alternatives For Girls after learning more about the positive impact AFG has on girls and young women in Detroit.”

Guests will enjoy warmth, hospitality and delectable teatime delights, and have the opportunity to bid on new and gently used treasures donated by guests in the featured silent auction. Auction items include jewelry, books, home décor, food baskets with iconic Detroit brands like Sanders and Morley, bakery treats and fresh floral arrangements—with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting Alternatives For Girls.  Amy Good, CEO of Alternatives For Girls, noted the value of the annual tea to AFG.

“Shirley Maddalena’s generosity in presenting the annual Holiday Tea at the Townsend has provided critical support to Alternatives For Girls for 15 years. The event has raised significant funds and most importantly, inspired guests to become friends of AFG—making a real impact on AFG’s work,” Good said. “I am deeply appreciative of Shirley’s ongoing commitment to AFG’s mission of providing resources and opportunities to homeless and high-risk girls and young women. I look forward to another delightful event on December 1!”

The Holiday Tea at the Townsend takes place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 1. Tickets are $60 for regular admission or $100 for patron sponsors. Sponsorship packages are also available.  Platinum sponsorship for $3,500 includes eight tickets; gold sponsorship for $2,000 includes four tickets; and silver sponsorship for $1,000 includes two tickets. The 2017 supporting sponsor is Steve Riga of The Riga Group at Morgan Stanley, Birmingham, Mich.
