Auburn Hills, Mich. —April 1, 2015—- Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, is pleased to announce the Board of Education’s approval of up to 60 seats for Schools of Choice enrollment for kindergarten through second grade for the 2015-2016 school year. The seats will be distributed among the District’s four elementary schools:
• Auburn Elementary in Auburn Hills (home of the Avondale/Oakland University Partnership School)
• Deerfield Elementary in Rochester Hills
• R. Grant Graham Elementary in Auburn Hills
• Woodland Elementary in Troy

“Avondale is a highly collaborative district where teachers, staff and families work together to provide the best education possible to our students,” said Avondale Superintendent Dr. James Schwarz. “We are pleased to offer these 60 Schools of Choice seats for families interested in the many advantages provided by an Avondale education.”

The Schools of Choice enrollment is for kindergarten through second grade only and applications must be received by April 30, 2015. The number of spaces available for Schools of Choice students in each elementary building will be determined by the Avondale School District. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available, a lottery will be held on May 8, 2015, as specified by state law. All applicants will be notified via U.S. mail of their enrollment status by May 15, 2015.

If an applicant’s name is not drawn in the lottery for admission to the Avondale School District, the student’s name will be kept on a waiting list and will be notified if a seat becomes available. All applications will be thoroughly screened to ensure that accurate information has been provided.

Students enrolled under Schools of Choice guidelines are not eligible for transportation through the Avondale School District.
