Auburn Hills, Mich.—April 27, 2015—- Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, announces Avondale High School will be hosting an art exhibit of eight Advanced Placement art students on Wednesday, April 29.
For the Senior Art Exhibit, students are responsible for organizing, designing and setting up their individual shows. The eight students each create invitations and establish a theme and title for their displays. According to Leigh Wright, art teacher at Avondale High School, the students are also responsible for organizing and catering the reception and pricing their artwork for sale.
“The art room is a buzz with activity as the Advanced Placement art students prepare for their Senior Art Exhibition,” Wright said. “These eight students have been preparing all year for this exhibition and I am so proud of the talent that will be on display at the April 29 event. These students are gifted and I look forward to them sharing their work with the Avondale community.”
The eight students who will have work on display at the exhibit are:
– Anna Bajorek, 18, of Rochester Hills and daughter of Daniel and Stephanie Bajorek; her show is entitled Macrocosm
– Marlet Romero Barrera, 18, of Auburn Hills and daughter of Ramses Romero and Marlet Barrera; her show is entitled Maturation
– Henry Cleaveland, 17, of Auburn Hills and son of Scot and Stacy Cleaveland; his show is entitled What Did You Expect?
– Mia Dexter, 17, of Auburn Hills and daughter of Matthew and Frances Dexter; her show is entitled Out of Hand
– Marissa Rogers, 17, of Bloomfield Hills and daughter of James and Cheryl Rogers; her show is entitled Story in White
– Shima Sadaghiyani, 17, of Rochester Hills and daughter of Jamshid Sadaghiyani and Elham Mahmoudi; her show is entitled Composition of Identity
– Alyssa Smith, 17, of Troy and daughter of Matthew and Susan Smith; her show is entitled Sirens
– Tyler Wayne, 18, of Rochester Hills and son of Bob and Ruth Wayne; his show is entitled Industrial Evolution
The Advanced Placement artwork will be on display at Avondale High School (2800 Waukegan, Auburn Hills 48326) in the TV studio on Wednesday, April 29 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. An awards ceremony and National Art Honor Society induction will take place in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. A three-member panel of professional artists will adjudicate the show and scholarships will be awarded based on the judge’s decision. The Janet Davison Award, in honor of former Avondale High School art teacher, Mrs. Janet Davison, will be the evening’s top award. Mrs. Davison will personally present the award to the student.
In addition to the artwork of the eight Advanced Placement art students, the Avondale Art Department will showcase artwork from more than 150 students presently enrolled in a variety of art courses including painting, drawing, ceramics, metals, printmaking and mixed media. The show will also be open for general viewing on Friday, May 1 from 2:30 – 7 p.m.
