Bloomfield Hills, Mich. – Oct. 26, 2016 – Can you say tradition? Bloomfield Hills business owner and charity hostess Shirley Maddalena of Maddalena Design, Ltd., is committed to it, as she announces her 28th annual holiday tea to support Alternatives For Girls, a Detroit-based organization helping local homeless and high-risk girls and young women. The event is set for Friday, Dec. 2 at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. Maddalena’s holiday tea serves not only as a charity fundraiser but also a holiday kick-off event for family and friends, old and new.

“For 28 years, the holiday tea has presented the opportunity to ring in the holidays and support women’s charities,” Maddalena said. “There are women who have been coming to the tea since 1988 and others who recently discovered the event and want to make it an annual tradition. Many of the attendees in the past ten years have also become volunteers and supporters of Alternatives For Girls year-round after learning of the positive impact AFG has on girls and young women in Detroit.”

In addition to networking, the holiday high tea features a silent auction of new and gently used treasures brought by guests. 100% of the proceeds benefit Alternatives For Girls. Auction items include jewelry, books, home décor, food baskets with iconic Detroit brands like Sanders and Morley, bakery treats and fresh floral arrangements. Amy Good, CEO of Alternatives For Girls, noted the value of the annual tea to AFG.

“Shirley Maddalena’s Holiday High Tea has provided critical support to Alternatives For Girls for over 10 years. The event has raised significant funds and friends for AFG and, most importantly, has had a real impact on AFG’s work,” Good said. “I am deeply grateful for Shirley’s long-standing commitment to AFG’s mission; providing resources and opportunities to homeless and high-risk girls and young women. I look forward to another wonderful event this year on December 2!”

The Dec. 2 event is from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Holiday tea tickets are $60 for regular admission or $100 for patron sponsors. Sponsorship packages are also available.  Platinum sponsorship for $3,500 includes eight tickets; gold sponsorship for $2,000 includes four tickets; and silver sponsorship for $1,000 includes two tickets. The 2016 supporting sponsor is Steve Riga of The Riga Group at Morgan Stanley, Birmingham, Mich.

To purchase tickets, go to the Alternatives For Girls website or send a check payable to Alternatives For Girls (ATTN: Holiday Tea) to 903 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit, MI 48208. Tickets may also be purchased at the door, although advanced ticket sales are appreciated.
