Rochester, Mich.––Nov. 16, 2017––A broken tooth is never a welcome occurrence, but when dentists use computerized CAD/CAM dentistry called CEREC, the tooth can be repaired quickly and safely – and with long lasting results. Dr. Jeff Haddad of Doolin Haddad Advanced Dentistry, a Rochester, Michigan, dental practice focusing on cosmetic, implant and restorative dentistry, says that while some dentists may still be using a filling option to repair a broken tooth, CEREC offers superior outcomes.

“Repairing a broken tooth with a filling is an outdated and ineffective method in almost all cases,” Haddad said. “The best way to repair a broken tooth is typically with a porcelain restoration such as a crown or onlay. Thanks to CEREC technology, the crown or onlay can be designed and milled right in the office in one visit. There is no need to take a messy impression of the tooth or send it to an outside lab, as was the case prior to modern dentistry options.”

Dr. Haddad explains that CEREC is a computer aided design device with a camera that creates a 3-D digital impression of the teeth.

“Dentists who use CEREC are able to create a virtual tooth using computer technology that allows for custom design to restore the tooth back to excellent condition,” Dr. Haddad said, adding that Doolin Haddad were early adopters and have used CEREC technology since 2009, but have kept current with the technology as it’s evolved and have the most recent version of the camera and the software.

“CEREC requires a major financial investment as well as a significant amount of dentist training time, but having access to superior technology for our patients is a key component of our patient-first philosophy,” Dr. Haddad said.

Dr. Haddad says the benefits of using CEREC for broken teeth are numerous and include:

  • Beautiful and natural looking restorations done in one dental visit
  • The use of durable materials that ensure long lasting restorations
  • All porcelain restorations that provide added strength and stability to the remaining tooth structure
  • Less chance for the need of a root canal or the likelihood of post-operative sensitivity
