Ann Arbor, Mich. — June 1, 2017 — Brinks Gilson & Lione, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the U.S., announced that Jon H. Beaupré, a shareholder and litigator in the Ann Arbor office, will join with his Brinks’ Chicago office colleague, Jeffrey J. Catalano, to participate in the ninth China-US Intellectual Property Comparative Mock Trial at China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) training center in Beijing on June 15, 2017.

Beaupré and Catalano will conduct a mock trial of a fictionalized trade secret misappropriation litigation in a United States District Court. The Honorable Judge Virginia Kendall of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois will preside over the simulated trial. Separately, lawyers from a Chinese law firm will conduct a trial on the same fact pattern, simulating the procedure in the courts of China. The purpose of the program is to educate members of the IP community, including representatives of private enterprises, law firms, universities, research institutes and the courts, about similarities and differences in practices within the two jurisdictions.

Brinks Gilson & Lione is expected to receive regulatory approval in 2017 for its new office in Shenzhen, the city at the center of China’s booming technology research and development sector. The office will be Brinks’ first overseas, and it is intended to serve companies in Guangdong province and throughout China in addressing intellectual property issues in the United States.

The ninth China-US Intellectual Property Comparative Mock Trial at China’s State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) is a free, full-day event. It is organized by The John Marshall Law School. The working language of the event is English; simultaneous translation will be provided. More information (in the Chinese language) is at http://www.ciptc.org.cn/public/site/notice/index?__id=9661.
