Rochester, Mich. ––May 23, 2017 –– Doolin Haddad Advanced Dentistry, a Rochester, Mich., dental practice focusing on cosmetic, implant and restorative dentistry, has noted a common inner ear disorder affecting more than 615,000 people in the United States may be effectively remedied by dental evaluation and treatment.

Vertigo, ringing in the ear, fluctuating hearing loss and ear pressure are all symptoms of Meniere’s disease, the inner ear affliction that currently has no cure.  According to Dr. Jeff Haddad, similar symptoms have presented in dental patients with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, more commonly referred to as TMD or TMJ.

“Because there is a connection between the two conditions,” Dr. Haddad says, “Meniere’s symptoms can be better managed if a patient’s underlying TMD is first addressed through neuromuscular dentistry treatment to align the jaw properly.”

Through computer analysis and muscle relaxation, Dr. Haddad can diagnose and treat the symptoms of TMD, which often involves fitting patients with a neuromuscular appliance to properly align their jaws.

“This proper alignment leads to the relief of stress on the socket of the temporomandibular joint, which in turn allows the nerves and muscles—which are extremely close to the socket—to go back to normal as well,” said Dr. Haddad.

Dr. Haddad has treated several patients with Meniere’s disease, including his own father, who was diagnosed in 2016. His vertigo was eliminated and ringing in the ear reduced significantly following treatment with a neuromuscular appliance.

“Overwhelming, evidence has shown that seeking treatment for coexisting conditions could be the answer Meniere’s patients are looking for to get relief,” Dr. Haddad said. “Information is power. Being evaluated by a dentist trained in neuromuscular dentistry may be exactly what those afflicted with the disease need to do to improve their symptoms and quality of life.”
