Rochester/Lapeer, Mich. –Nov. 10, 2016– Mattina, Kent & Gibbons, P.C. (MKG), a Michigan-based CPA firm providing audit, accounting, tax and business consulting services to a variety of industries, has announced its continuing support of community initiatives in Lapeer, Mich., where the firm is pleased to have one of its office locations.

Clark D. Kent, CPA and managing partner of the Lapeer office, shared news of MKG’s support and involvement, emphasizing the importance of being a larger part of a community in which many of the firm’s employees not only work but also reside.

“Our firm has long-standing roots in this region, so we are deeply committed to being active members of business and outreach programs that assist Lapeer and its surrounding areas.  As we strive to be an exemplary corporate citizen, we participate and provide leadership in a number of local events and initiatives,” he said.

For example, MKG was a sponsor of LACADA’s (Lapeer Area Citizens Against Domestic Assault) 24th Annual Taste of Lapeer on Oct. 6.  Proceeds from the charitable event benefit the organization’s free and confidential support programs assisting individuals affected by domestic violence.

The Kiwanis Club of Lapeer took to the streets of Downtown Lapeer on Oct. 14 for its annual Cider and Donut Sale.  Jessica Walz, CPA at MKG, is a Kiwanis Club board member, while MKG accountant Erica Henderson is a Lapeer Kiwanis member.

Additionally, Jessica recently earned her MST (Masters of Science in Taxation) from Walsh College, and joins Shirley Gofrank, MKG Principal, and MKG Jennifer Lundy, CPA Shareholder, in the Rochester office, who also earned their MSTs from Walsh College.

All bets were on!  MKG was again a sponsor and donated a “camel” to the Family Literacy Center’s annual Camel Race fundraiser held on Oct. 21 at the Center Building on County Center Street.  The event challenged wooden racing camels, decorated by each sponsor, to be the first to cross the finish line.  Lorretta Deneweth, CPA, MKG shareholder in Lapeer, is a board member of the Family Literacy Center, which has provided free one-on-one and small group literacy tutoring programs in Lapeer County and surrounding areas since 1980.
