Two Rochester Community Schools class of 2016 grads receive Paul Harris college scholarships from Rochester Rotary Club

Rochester, Mich. — June 6, 2016 – Rochester Rotary, a member club of Rotary International, a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service and encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, announces it awarded Paul Harris college scholarships to two Rochester Community Schools class of 2016 graduates. Paul Harris is a co-founder of Rotary International. Each scholarship is for $5,000, payable over four years at $1,250 per year, provided the awardee is enrolled in college full-time. The announcement was made by Rochester Rotary Club President, Alan McLellan.

“Scholarship and the encouragement of community service at the high school level are vital elements of Rochester Rotary’s outreach to the young people in our community,” McLellan said. “We are honored to present these scholarships to such community and academically minded Rochester area students.”

The 2016 Paul Harris scholarship winners are:
• Elena Romund, Rochester Adams High School class of 2016. Elena will attend the University of Michigan in the fall to pursue a major in biology. She was in the Adam’s Interact Club for three years and served as the Club’s Vice President.
• Sudharshna Radhakrishnan, Rochester High School class of 2016. Sudharshna will attend the University of Michigan to pursue a major in computer science. She was in the Rochester High Interact Club for three years and has an extensive record of community service.

Interact is Rotary International’s service club for students ages 14-18 and is offered at all Rochester Community Schools high schools (Adams, Rochester, Stoney Creek and ACE). The recipients received their scholarships at the Community Scholarship Reception on April 19, 2016.
