Detroit, Mich., — Sept. 30, 2014 — One Detroit Center, an award winning, Class A office property located in downtown Detroit, is offering its tenants the opportunity to “leave their mark” on the iconic building at its Paint the Crown art party on Oct 9. The unusual gathering will bring tenant companies together to participate in a collaborative art project that celebrates the individual tenant companies, the building’s architecture and the thriving art and design movement in Detroit. The event also complements One Detroit Center’s sponsorship of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Detroit Architectural Celebration, which took place on Sept. 25 as part of the Detroit Design Festival.

At the Paint the Crown art party, each tenant organization will be given a canvas outlined with the One Detroit Center crown on it. The organization’s employees will then come together as a team to paint their canvas under the guidance of local artist Kathleen McInerney, who will act as creative director and also help participants put the finishing touches on each of the paintings.

According to Greg Camia, lead executive of One Detroit Center and senior vice president of iStar Financial, which is the majority owner of the building, Paint the Crown took shape from Detroit’s dynamic art scene.

“Detroit’s creative movement is growing exponentially and those who work downtown increasingly want to be part of the city’s cultural scene,” Camia said. “With One Detroit Center located in the heart of downtown, we wanted to create an event offering our tenant organizations the opportunity to leave a lasting impression here and build community through art.”

Following the Paint the Crown art party, a panel of judges will select a winning organization to receive an actual reproduction, a Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) corporate membership and an electronic image of the art to repurpose in a variety of ways (e.g. on social media). Additionally, team leaders appointed by each participating member organization will receive individual memberships to the DIA. Each participating organization will receive a copy of its completed art. All original artwork from the event will be displayed as a collection on the first floor of One Detroit Center.

Paint the Crown art party will take place on Thursday, Oct. 9 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the west lobby of One Detroit Center. There will be gifts for the first 200 attendees and refreshments and appetizers will be served.
