Auburn Hills, Mich. —Aug. 6, 2014—- Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts and athletics, invites the community to observe the first round of interviews between the Avondale Board of Education members and the new superintendent candidates on Wed., Aug. 13 and Thurs., Aug. 14 at the Avondale Administrative Offices at 2940 Waukegan Street, Auburn Hills. There will be three interviews each evening beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at approximately 10:15 p.m. Interviews are estimated to last one hour and fifteen minutes, with a fifteen minute break in between interviews.

The district is replacing Dr. George Heitsch, who served as Avondale’s superintendent since 2006 and is now superintendent at Farmington Public Schools. Avondale’s interim superintendent, Dr. Rick Repicky, is a retired superintendent from Fraser Public Schools and is not pursuing the Avondale superintendent position.

In addition to a new superintendent, the Avondale Board of Education is seeking candidates to fill a board trustee vacancy left by the departure of long-time trustee and former president, Cyndi Pettit. Interested candidates must complete an application (available on the district website or at the Administrative Offices) by Friday, Aug. 8 at 4 p.m. and will be interviewed by the Board of Education during a special public meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 12 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Interviews will last approximately 30 minutes.

The formal search for Avondale’s new superintendent is being conducted by the Michigan Leadership Institute and details of the search can be viewed here.
